CONA Delegation Profiles 2019: Joseph Clark

Joseph Clark is attending Benedictine College Preparatory as a Junior in the fall. This was both his first year at MGA and first year at CONA, kinda like me actually. His proposal allows for the lowering of the federal drinking age from 21 to 18 in an effort to create a drinking culture where binge drinking isn’t so heavily praised by the youth. He’s trying to move America’s drinking culture closer to that of a nation like France, which Joseph happens to have just returned from. Joseph was there with his school as they were marching in the 75th D-Day Anniversary, a crazy awesome opportunity in my opinion at least. Along with being excited to meet all the new people at CONA, Joseph also looks forward to being acquainted with the other side of arguments that he hasn’t yet heard before. He believes events such as CONA and MGA to be important because it allows the opportunity for students to establish an interest in participating in the political system as well as learning how to properly present bills and proposals. He also says that they help develop the ability to properly debate and compromise, both important tools to have. When asked for the title of his “life movie,” Joseph replied: “Crossing the Finish Line.” He explains that “the finish line” serves as a physical manifestation of a goal. Goals serve an important function in Joseph’s life as he structures his days to continue pushing him one step closer to completing them. A big goal that he has recently accomplished is becoming an Eagle Scout. One of his primary goals for the coming years is to get himself into a position where he can attend West Point alongside other like-minded, hard-working, and goal-oriented young men and women.
